City Lights

A View of the City at Night as a Romantic Date Idea
This is a simple date about finding a secluded spot with an amazing view of the city at night and having a picnic or dessert while you lay back, watch the city lights, and get to know each other.

If a spot doesn't come to mind immediately, just go outside and look around for a hilly or mountainous area nearby that could provide a good vantage point. If this isn’t possible, consider a remote field or beach where you can see the skyline or have a nice position to see a bridge or other local landmark. You might also think about a view of the airport, or even the freeway, which can be remarkably peaceful and charming at night (from a distance). Here in San Diego we have nightly fireworks shows from Sea World and Legoland during the summer. If your city offers something similar, call to verify the starting time and find a good spot to watch the show. Also think about adding a nice moon to the mix, check the calendar in the Links section to plan a good date.

When you arrive, lay down a blanket and light a few tealight or votive candles to set the mood, and so that you can see the food you've brought along. Don’t get too complicated when eating food at night. Bread or crackers with dip, cheese, or hummus are easy to pull-off and don't require plates or utensils. Good dessert choices include chocolate-dipped strawberries, dark chocolate, or a piece of cheesecake. Wine is always fun, but for cooler nights maybe some hot cocoa, coffee, cider, or mulled wine. If bringing wine or other alcohol, make sure it's legal to have on the premises, and check how late you can stay before.

It's now dark, secluded, you have a beautiful view, and are drinking wine on a blanket. Enjoy!
